Island Peak Combined with Everest Base Camp Trek
Island peak, another name Imja Tse (6173m) is looks like an island in a sea of ice thats why some how its called by island peak. Its situated at the top of the Imja Khola valley in the Khumbu region. To climb the island peak is technical and straight forward so that the climber must used the component of climbing materials like ice axe and crampons. The most difficult section is a mixed rock and ice wall at the slope of around 45 degree leading to the narrow summit ridge.
Our trek will begin after our 30 minutes flight from the Kathmandu to Lukla and it will continually go up to Everest base camp passing through very beautiful Sherpa villages including Sherpas capital Namche, high pass Kala Pattar (18,450ft), Khumbu glacier and Everest base camp at the foot of Khumbu icefall. Our 2nd itinerary goes through a nice blue ice lake Gokyo and crossing over another challenging high pass Cho La (17,890ft). Views of worlds height peak including Mt Lhotse massif, Mt Nupse together are unbelievable. Trekking to Everest Base Camp will help us to be well acclimatized and spending couple of nights we head back to the beautiful Imja Khola valley towards Island peak base camp.
After well setting up the base camp of Island peak, we have 3/4 days for summit attempt the peak. First we will spend a night at high camp and next morning we will go for summit attempt of the peak and same day straight decent to the base camp. And finally we return passing through Sherpas capital Namche and fly out form Lukla to Kathmandu.
Itinerary
ITINERARY 01
Day 01 - Arrival Kathmandu (1,352m); transfers to hotel;
Day 02 - Kathmandu; city tour; trek preparations,
Day 03 - Fly to Lukla (2,800m); trek to Phakding (2,610m);
Day 04 - Trek Namche Bazaar (3,440m);
Day 05 - Rest/Acclimatization day in Namche Bazaar;
Day 06 - Trek Tengboche (3,870m); visit monastery that same night in Tengboche or early in the next morning.
Day 07 - Trek Dengboche (4,410m) in the Chhukung Valley, beautiful views throughout
Day 08 - Rest/Acclimatization day in Dengboche; rest, optional day hikes to 17,000+ feet in the Chhukung Valley, Chhukung Ri.
Day 09 - Trek to Lobuche(4,830m), camp near Italian Lodge or close
Day 10 - Trek to Everest base camp (5,364m); overnight Gorak Shep
Day 11 - Sunrise climb of Kala Pattar (5,555m); trek back to Lobouche
Day 12 - Trek to Chhukung (4,743m)
Day 13 - Trek to Island Peak Base Camp (5,200m)
Day 14 - Climb to High camp (5,700m)
Day 15 - Summit back to Chhukung (4,743m)
Day 16 - Trek to Pangbouche (4,252m)
Day 17 - Trek to Namche (3,440m)
Day 18 - Trek to Lukla (2,800m)
Day 19 - Early morning flight to Kathmandu; free day; evening celebration meal
